New appointment system 2018

We are launching a new appointment system on 2 January 2018. We have done some work to make a larger proportion of appointments available to pre-book, so patients do not need to keep phoning back for appointments, or feel they need to attend at reception at 8am in person in order to get an appointment. We have also made more appointments available for on-line booking.

Switching to a new systems will have some glitches, but please be patient - we hope to have it running smoothly by middle January 2018.

To help us, we would appreciate it if you could tell our receptionist why you need an appointment, and in what timeframe, so they can offer you an appointment that meets your needs. You don't have to tell us the reason, but it does help us to make a judgement when allocating clinical time to your need.

Some of the biggest changes:

-phone lines will open at 8am

-more flexibility for the reception team to pre-book appointments

-a large proportion of our Advance Nurse Practitioners Sally Kaemer and Jane Bone appointments will be free every day, to see those patients who have woken up unwell.

-Sally and Jane's appointments will be 12 minutes long (instead on 10 minutes)

-Use our nursing team to assist with conditions such as urinary tract infections, ear infections, and other minor illnesses, so the GPs can focus on the more complex clinical conditions. If prescriptions are required, they can make the necessary arrangements with the on-call GP. Availability will be saved every day for the nurses to help with those conditions.

-We will have 3 GPs doing a 7-8am morning surgery every Tuesday (pre-bookable appointments only)

-We will be doing a Saturday Surgery the second Saturday of every month (8am-12pm) with a GP and Practice Nurse

-when we run out of on-the-day appointment availability, you will be offered a telephone call from a member of the clinical team. If the clinician determines that you have to be seen that day, you will be fitted in, usually over lunchtime.

No doubt we will have to make slight changes as we work our way through the changes in January 2018 - but feedback is always welcome. Even with a new GP starting in January,  availability will still be an issue - it is for all GP Surgeries - and the Partners are currently consulting about our further recruitment needs. However, we will be less reliant on locum GPs in 2018.
