* GPs have commitments to chronic disease and other clinics and therefore times for routine afternoon appointments vary between 2pm and 6pm. There is a doctor available on call for emergency matters during surgery opening hours.
Appointments
How to make an appointment
Please call our main switchboard or call into the surgery. Our appointment system is designed to be as responsive as possible to patient needs. We aim to have a number of appointments available up to a month in advance although at busy times these may be filled quickly; most appointments are bookable up to 2 working days before the appointment time. If you need to be seen urgently please call at 8:30 when a limited number of appointments will be available for issues that will not wait. If it is medically urgent you will always be seen or recieve a telephone triage on the day but please only use this facility for issues that are urgent.
Appointments with our Practice Nurses/Healthcare Assistants are all pre-bookable.
If you cannot keep an appointment, please inform us as soon as possible as this will allow us to offer the appointment to another patient.
Appointments with Dr Humphrey
The demand for appointments with Dr Humphrey far exceed the number of appointments she is able to offer. Where patients are unable to wait for the next available appointment for Dr Humphrey we are always able to offer an earlier appointment with another doctor.
Why a Nurse/Healthcare Assistant instead of a Doctor?
Our nurses and Healthcare Assistants have been specially trained to undertake certain procedures, as well as healthcare monitoring for patients with long-term conditions. If patients see our nurses/HCAs for routine healthcare needs or for straightforward medical help it means that our doctors have more time to see patients with more complex healthcare needs. It also means that our GPs have more time to undertake procedures, such as minor surgery, that used to be done only in hospital.
The reception staff can generally advise whether an appointment with the nurse/HCA will be satisfactory for your particular health problem. However, you do not have to inform the reception staff if you prefer to wait for an appointment with a GP.
How do I arrange a home visit
Our doctors typically see four patients at the practice in the time it takes to do a single home visit. For this reason, we ask our patients to come to the practice if at all possible. Please ring the main switchboard before 10 am if possible to request a visit. Please be prepared to tell the receptionist about your condition so we can visit the most urgent cases first. The doctor will usually call for further information before carrying out a visit. Home visits are normally made after 12:30.
How to get a health checkup
Newly registered patients, those aged 75 or over who have not had a consultation in the past year and adult patients under 75 who have not had a consultation in the past three years all have the right to request a health check consultation with either a doctor/nurse/HCA at the practice. Please call reception to arrange an appointment.
