Non NHS Services
Private Work Fees
Peacock Surgery may require patients to pay in advance for any non NHS services.
Why are fees charged?
Some services provided are not covered under our contract with the NHS and therefore attract charges. The government’s contract with GPs only covers general medical services to NHS patients.
Do GPs have to do non-NHS work for their patients?
With certain limited exceptions, GPs do not have to carry our non-NHS work. However, GPs will always attempt to assist their patients and carry out this work when requested. GPs and Nurses must prioritise our core clinical work, which is why private services may take a little longer.
I only need the GP’s signature – what’s the problem?
When a GP or nurse signs a certificate, completes a report, administers a travel vaccination or writes a letter, they take full legal responsibility. Mistakes can affect their inclusion in their professional registration councils. They only sign what they know to be true. In order to complete even the simplest of forms, the doctor may have to check a patient’s entire medical record, so a simple form can still take a significant amount of time to complete.
How should I pay the fee?
We will send an invoice to your email or for collection at reception if you prefer. Please pay the requested amount by bank transfer using the invoice number as a reference. If you don’t use online banking you can pay at reception over the counter. Please contact the surgery for details.
With the exception of Travel and Vaccination Fees, all Veterans of any branch of the United Kingdom Armed Forces are exempt from private fees. In order to request fees to be exempted, we will ask to see evidence of your Veteran status.
