* GPs have commitments to chronic disease and other clinics and therefore times for routine afternoon appointments vary between 2pm and 6pm. There is a doctor available on call for emergency matters between 8.00am – 6.30pm.

How to make an appointment

  • Please call our main switchboard (it is easiest after 10.00 am) or call into the surgery.
  • We aim to have a number of appointments available up to a month in advance although at busy times these may be filled quickly
  • Appointments are bookable on the day.
  • Please arrive on time! if you arrive more than 4 minutes late you may not bee seen as this is too disruptive to other patients.
  • If it is medically urgent you will always be seen or receive a telephone triage on the day but please only use this facility for issues that are urgent.
  •  We have two Advanced Nurse Practitioners who work alongside the GPs. They are well qualified and are able to deal with most issues. They are able to diagnose, prescribe and refer. They will be able to consult with a GP if they are uncertain about any diagnosis.
  •  Appointments with our Practice Nurses/Healthcare Assistants are all pre-bookable.
  •  If you cannot keep an appointment, please inform us as soon as possible as this will allow us to offer the appointment to another patient. You can cancel this yourself on line.

Access for people with mobility challenges

There is a lift available and ample disabled parking.

What are my appointment options?

If there is no appointment available to be booked in advance with a GP, you will be offerred a number of options:

  •  To call or look on line on the day of your choice when more appointments are available
  • To be seen at one of the hubs (Stansted, Saffron Walden or Great Dunmow) at the weekend or on some weekday evenings. Ask when you call.
  • If your issue is urgent a clinician will call you on the day between 11.00 and 12.00 that morning. You must be by the phone number you gave during this time. We will not call you repeatedly.

Why a Nurse/Healthcare Assistant instead of a Doctor?

  • Our nurses and Healthcare Assistants have been specially trained to undertake certain procedures, as well as healthcare monitoring for patients with long-term conditions. If patients see our nurses/HCAs for routine healthcare needs or for straightforward medical help it means that our doctors have more time to see patients with more complex healthcare needs. It also means that our GPs have more time to undertake procedures, such as minor surgery, that used to be done only in hospital.
  • The reception staff can generally advise whether an appointment with the nurse/HCA will be satisfactory for your particular health problem. However, you do not have to inform the reception staff if you prefer to wait for an appointment with a GP but you may well be seen more quickly if you are willing  to disclose this information to the receptionist.

How do I arrange a home visit

  • Our doctors typically see four patients at the practice in the time it takes to do a single home visit. For this reason, we ask our patients to come to the practice if at all possible. Please ring the main switchboard before 10 am if possible to request a visit. Please be prepared to tell the receptionist about your condition so we can visit the most urgent cases first. The doctor will usually call for further information before carrying out a visit. Home visits are normally made after 12:30.

How to get a health check-up

  • Newly registered patients, those aged 75 or over who have not had a consultation in the past year and adult patients under 75 who have not had a consultation in the past three years all have the right to request a health check consultation with either a doctor/nurse/HCA at the practice. Please call reception to arrange an appointment.
